Situation: A player leaves one club and goes to another; could be into or within our GU.. The reason for the transfer isn’t relevant for the following.
There are three parts to the transfer process:
- Transfer
- Waiver
- Registration
1. Transfer
- Transferring from one team to another via RX isn’t hard. However, the GU and the former club must both approve. This can hold things up.
- Once the approval is done, the player is notified AND informed that they must register with the new club. Many players don’t pay attention to this even though it’s in bold (quoting from the Email that goes out):
- “Once approved, players will need to complete their online registration with the ‘To Club’ to appear for selection in squad management and team lists.“
- A transfer does not automatically qualify a player to play in NCS games (league matches, local playoffs, regionals, nationals). Without a waiver, it only applies to friendlies (or 7s if the transfer occurred during the 15s season).
2. Waiver
- If a player wants to play in an NCS game, they MUST apply for a waiver IF they have played even one game for their previous club.
- No approved waiver means no eligibility in NCS with the new club. Friendlies only.
- Eligibility does NOT stop people from playing rugby. This DOES prevent club hopping.
3. Registration
- As indicated above, once the transfer is done the player may register for the new club and would have to before they can appear in an RX Squad or Team. However, registration for a transferred player is meaningless without a waiver.
IMPORTANT: The April 1 deadline for 15s transfers and registration. Both must be done by that date.
